More Vision Than Experience
My first event was an Afro House Party Night, and if I’m being honest, I went into it with more vision than experience.
I didn’t fully know what I was doing yet. I had an idea of what I wanted it to feel like, but seeing it come to life in a real room with real people was something else. Some moments worked exactly how I imagined… others didn’t land the way I thought they would.
And that’s where everything changed for me.
I started to understand that it’s not just about playing good music. It’s about reading the room, shaping the energy, knowing when to push and when to hold back. Things you can’t learn alone — only by being in it.
I could feel people watching, some probably unsure of what I was trying to do, maybe even judging it. But I wasn’t there to be understood right away. I was there to learn, to try, and to build something real.
It showed me that this is something you grow into… not something you wait to be ready for.
That night wasn’t perfect, but it opened my eyes.

One thing I’ll never forget though — the support around me. My friends didn’t fully understand everything I was trying to do, but they showed up anyway. From setting everything up to packing it all down at the end, they were there the whole way.
I even printed t-shirts for it, for no real reason other than it meant something to me. Seeing them wear it… that was the moment that made the whole night.
Looking back, I know I went a bit too far with certain things. But that’s part of it …you live, you try, and you learn.
